The Integrative Counselling approach

Integrative counselling is not tied to any single therapy since it takes the view that no one single approach works for every client in every situation.

While integrative counselling takes concepts, skills and techniques from a number of sources this does not mean that it is adhoc in practice. The counsellor works in a systematic way whilst being flexible to the needs of the client. Essentially, there is an overall structure but the process is not mechanistic, the counselling must fit the client not vice-versa.

Research indicates that the most probable factors determining a successful outcome to counselling are the personal qualities of both counsellor and the client and the relationship between them, rather than the particular approach used.
